Six Feet Underground

At one point or another, we'll learn that history is written by the winners.

About a week ago, I couldn't sleep, no matter how hard I'd try. And then, at about 3 am, inspiration struck. Immediately I got up, and began scribbling earnestly at the closest sheet of rough paper I could find. In about 15 minutes, it was completed, and I sank back into my pillows.

It was a song; and I had only planned to record it when I would next get back to Singapore and meet up with my the mates from my band. As it turned out, I was in the M-lab and Fikri brought his guitar in to be tuned. Coincidence? I didn't matter. It was an opportunity too good to be passed up.

So the song commenced recording. And two days later, after wrestling with the mixer, poor acoustics, a renegade microphone and TMY (don't ask) it was completed. And here is the final result. Granted it's not very professional - seeing as of course how the people involved in the recording (i.e. myself and then some) knew only so much about operating the mixer (in other words, we knew where the on/off switch was and that was it).

So if you would pardon the rawness of the whole thing, I think this might be a song that you could very enjoy. But that's just me.

Six Feet Underground
by Eddie G.

Remember Columbus
The dude who lost his way?
He founded his country
But they're just as lost today.
Despite the circumstances
They are here to stay,
And they seem pretty pleased about it.

Remember Hitler
The one with the weird moustache?
Killed six million Jews because
They were making too much cash.
He fought with C. Columbus
It was over in a flash,
Now everyone hates that piece of shit.

Chorus:
And history's written by the winners
The ones that make it safe and sound
History's written by the winners
'Cos you can't hold a pen if you're six feet underground

Remember Stalin
From the Motherland?
He could make the people cheer
Just by raising his hand
But feeding his population
He could never understand
But the people loved him anyway

Now back to Columbus
He's pretty rich by now
Has a problem with Uncle Jo
So they both get in a row
Making super weapons
That they don't need anyhow
O, but never fear, 'cos America saves the day

Chorus:
And history's written by the winners
The ones that make it safe and sound
History's written by the winners
'Cos you can't hold a pen if you're six feet underground

Remember Lee Kuan Yew
He needs to see a shrink
Built too much on his tiny island
Now it's starting to sink
At least they needn't worry about
What they're gonna drink
So get your life jackets while they're still on sale

Remember Mahathir?
...no not really.

Chorus:
And history's written by the winners
The ones that make it safe and sound
History's written by the winners
'Cos you can't hold a pen if you're six feet underground

History's written by the winners
The ones that make it safe and sound
History's written by the winners
'Cos you can't hold a pen
Let me say it again
You can't hold a pen if you're six feet underground

Ye who seek for audience, let ye speak now!
